Mumbai, January 24, 2025 – In a joint operation by the Forest Department and the Wildlife Welfare Association, 37 Alexandrine parakeets were rescued from the Mangtaram Petrol Pump and Jameel Nagar areas of Bhandup (West). The seizure included 36 chicks and 1 adult parakeet.
The operation aimed to curb illegal wildlife smuggling activities. Notably, two chicks were found in injured conditions and are being given immediate medical treatment.
This operation was led by Round Officer Mr. Yamgar and the Mumbai Range Night Patrolling Team. The Forest Department has made it clear that strict actions will be taken against the smugglers involved.
All the rescued parakeets have been taken to the Wildlife Welfare Association’s rehabilitation center, where they will be cared for before being released back into their natural habitat.
