At least ten Indian flights have experienced major delays and diversions due to fake bomb threats throughout the past 48 hours.
After receiving a bomb threat, Singapore’s Air Force dispatched two fighter jets on Tuesday to escort an Air India Express aircraft away from populous areas.
An Air India flight from Delhi to Chicago had to make a precautionary landing at a Canadian airfield just hours earlier.
In India, fake bomb threats against airlines are not uncommon, although it’s unclear what caused the sharp increase that started on Monday.
Apart from Air India, IndiGo, SpiceJet and Akasa Air flights also received threats.
