Although Kamala Harris acknowledged losing the US presidential election to Donald Trump on Thursday, she vowed to keep up the battle that propelled her campaign. At her alma school, Howard University, Harris spoke passionately to supporters, saying, “The light of America’s promise will always burn bright.”

Following the stalling of President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, Harris’ loss dashed Democrats’ prospects of regaining the office. In addition to urging her followers to accept the outcome and that the battle to defend the nation’s “ideals” would go on, she promised a peaceful transfer of power. Kamala Harris on X app

There were thousands of people at the gathering, including David Plouffe and Jen O’Malley Dillon, two of Harris’ campaign staffers, and the atmosphere was solemn. As they exited the event, several of Harris’s younger relatives were dabbing at their tears.
