Eid-e-Milad Holiday in Mumbai Now on September 18: Government Adjusts for Festival Overlap!

Mumbai, September 14 — The Maharashtra government has announced a rescheduling of the official Eid-e-Milad holiday in Mumbai from September 16 to September 18. This change comes in response to local Muslim community leaders’ request to avoid overlap with Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of the Ganesh festival, which falls on September 17.

An official release stated that the decision was made to ensure smooth celebrations for both festivals. The local Muslim community has decided to hold Eid-e-Milad processions on September 18 to allow both Eid and Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations to be conducted with full enthusiasm and without any logistical issues.

Maharashtra Congress leader Naseem Khan had previously urged Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to make this adjustment, highlighting the need for harmony between the two festivals. The last day of Ganesh Chaturthi is set for September 17, while Eid-e-Milad is anticipated to be observed on September 16, depending on moon sighting.

The government has also indicated that local collectors may decide on rescheduling the Eid holiday in other districts based on local circumstances. This marks the second consecutive year that the Muslim community has opted to reschedule their celebrations to maintain communal harmony.
